Statement on the Selection of Judge Anna Blackburne-Rigsby as the Chief Judge of the DC Court of Appeals

(Washington, DC) – Today, Mayor Bowser released the following statement on the selection of Judge Anna Blackburne-Rigsby as the Chief Judge of the DC Court of Appeals:

“I congratulate Judge Anna Blackburne-Rigsby on being selected as the next Chief Judge of the DC Court of Appeals. I know that her more than twenty years of judicial experience will guide her well. At a time when our nation’s system of checks and balances is more important than ever, Washingtonians can feel confident knowing that Judge Blackburne-Rigsby will be leading DC’s highest court.

“I also want to thank outgoing Chief Judge Eric Washington for his decades of service. In his long tenure, Chief Judge Washington worked to improve access to the justice system. The Court of Appeals benefitted from his leadership and thoughtful jurisprudence. I wish him well.”
