Mayor Muriel Bowser Announces DCPS Rising Leadership Committee, Details on Community Forums

(Washington, DC) – Today, Mayor Bowser announced the composition of the 17-member DCPS Rising Leadership Committee, which will provide the Mayor Muriel Bowser with recommendations during the process to select a new chancellor for District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS).

“We are moving full steam ahead in our search for the next DCPS Chancellor,” said Mayor Bowser. “The DCPS Rising Leadership Committee is composed of principals, teachers, students, parents, and community members and is truly representative of our diverse city. I look forward to working with them and thank them for their dedication to our students.”

The 17-member committee will consist of the following individuals:

The DCPS Rising Leadership Committee will meet three times over the course of the chancellor selection process. During those meetings, the committee will provide feedback and input, and discuss the selection factors and priorities for DCPS in making their final decision. Finally, the Committee will summarize their recommendations in their last meeting. 

“I am thrilled to work collaboratively with the DCPS Rising Leadership Committee,” said Deputy Mayor Niles. “Their input during this exciting time will be vital throughout our process to select a new chancellor.” 

Deputy Mayor for Education (DME) will lead a series of community forums across the District. These forums will be an opportunity to hear from the community and gather input that will help the next Chancellor hit the ground running.
