Mayor Bowser Weekly Press Guidance Monday, March 25, 2019 – Sunday, March 31, 2019

As her budget rollout, Mayor Bowser will highlight transportation initiatives as well as efforts to create more housing and job opportunities to give all Washingtonians a #FairShot. 

• On Monday, Mayor Bowser kicks off the first Potholepalooza of her second term, as part of her annual spring campaign to expedite the repair of potholes in the District. At this event, the Mayor also breaks ground on the $25M Maryland Avenue, NE Streetscape Project, demonstrating her Administration’s commitment to eliminating transportation-related fatalities and enhancing overall mobility safety by 2024.
   
• On Tuesday, Mayor Bowser hosts the fifth annual March Madness with a special focus on Opportunity Zones. Last year, Mayor Bowser designated 25 census tracts as Opportunity Zones of which 18 are in Wards 7 and 8. The event will feature special guest speaker Senator Tim Scott (R-SC), a champion of the federal Opportunity Zones legislation. As always, March Madness will include a preview of new and upcoming development projects to deliver more affordable housing, inclusive economic growth, support for small businesses, and job opportunities to ensure that all Washingtonians have every opportunity to rise. Mayor Bowser will also announce the recipients of the Dream Grants to support small businesses in Wards 7 and 8. 
   
• On Thursday, Mayor Bowser participates in the pre-game program and announces “Play Ball” at the Washington Nationals’ 2019 home opener.
   
• On Friday, on the heels of her 2019 State of the District Address and Fiscal Year 2020 Budget Proposal, Mayor Bowser joins Kojo Nnamdi on the Politics Hour, discussing her Administration’s commitment to sharing the upside and providing all Washingtonians a fair shot at pathways to the middle class. Later, Mayor Bowser will break ground on the Brooks and Vale Buildings at the Parks, the first mixed-use project on Walter Reed. The site is a former federal property being converted into a vibrant, mixed use neighborhood. 
   
• On Saturday, Mayor Bowser joins residents to break ground on the next phase of the Wharf with a community celebration and family fun day. The Wharf is also a former federal property that is being reimagined and put back into productive use.
