Mayor Bowser to Launch SYEP 2015 with Site Visit and Roundtable

(Washington, DC) – Tomorrow, June 29th at 11 am, Mayor Bowser will host a roundtable with Marion S. Barry Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) participants at Enlightened, Inc. Enlightened is a HUBZone certified, information technology and management consulting firm that will host eleven SYEP youth ages 15 - 24 this summer.

Monday marks the first day of the six-week internship program for more than 15,000 participants. Mayor Bowser expanded the program this year to include 1,000 jobs for participants ages 22-24 years old. In addition to SYEP internship placements, youth ages 22-24 will be connected to a wide array of programs and services to help put them on pathways to the middle class. While Mayor Bowser is committed to permanently expanding SYEP for 22-24 year old young people, the Council of the District of Columbia has refused to make the expansion permanent.
