Mayor Bowser to Encourage Residents and Businesses to Take the District’s Hypothermia Pledge

(Washington, DC) – On Thursday, November 21, at 11:30 am, Mayor Muriel Bowser and the DowntownDC BID will host a Hypothermia Awareness Pledge event to encourage residents and organizations to join the District’s fight to prevent and end homelessness this winter. Each year, the Bowser Administration implements the Interagency Council on Homelessness Winter Plan to expand hypothermia shelter and other services to ensure a warm, safe bed for anyone who needs it during extreme temperatures.

The event will raise awareness about how the community can help protect vulnerable neighbors from cold weather-related injury and death. At the event, 500 personal care kits, donated by District partner CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield, will be made available to residents utilizing services of the Downtown Day Services Center.
