Mayor Bowser and DC Council to Hold Pre-Emancipation Day Press Conference

On Wednesday, April 13 at 10 am, Mayor Muriel Bowser, At-large Councilmember Vincent Orange, At-large Councilmember Anita Bonds, and other members of the DC Council will hold a press conference ahead of Saturday’s Emancipation Day activities. Emancipation Day marks the anniversary of 3,000 enslaved persons in Washington being freed eight months before the Emancipation Proclamation liberated slaves in the south.
The District sponsors numerous events to celebrate Emancipation Day, including a parade, concert, and fireworks display. For a full listing of the events, visit www.emancipation.dc.gov.
